Remote underwater video (RUV) proved effective for year‑round monitoring of reef fish spawning aggregations, with a study on blacksaddled coral grouper in New Caledonia revealing a fivefold increase in abundance from October to February, clear courtship behaviour, and monthly aggregation events between November and April. This demonstrates RUV’s potential to track spatiotemporal dynamics and validate spawning activity, offering a powerful, non‑invasive tool for managing reef fish reproduction.
