The database format incorporates information for 30 or so categories or parameters. The format has been established using the computer program 'MS ACCESS' that allows for detailed summaries and searches to be made of the collated data. Up to the present date, information has been compiled for over 600 cases (individual aggregations) from around the tropics, and the results are already revealing some striking patterns, see Database Summary. We respect the confidential nature of spawning site location data provided to us and do not release the actual aggregation site co-ordintates or site details. If you are interested in participating in this Database initiative, or would like more information about it, please contact us (scrfa@hkucc.hku.hk). |

SCRFA has a long-term project to collate a Global Database on reef fish aggregations. This database includes information from both formal and informal sources, ranging from literature reviews, to field interviews with personal communications. It aims to document all known aggregations throughout the tropics, their current status and their history of exploitation. By collecting and summarizing this information, we hope to build a strong case for aggregation management and conservation. The project is funded by the Packard Foundation Western Pacific Programme.
