- Campaigns and initiatives promoting the conservation and sustainable management of reef fish aggregations were called for in a statement issued by members in October, 2006, at ITMEMS3 in Cozumel, Mexico.

- Recommendation to better protect and manage reef fish spawning aggregations was adopted by the 4th IUCN World Fisheries Congress in November, 2004.

- A "Call for Action" was adopted (see end of 'Action Statement' (April, 2003) on ITMEMS2 (Second International Tropical Marine Eco-systems Management Symposium March 24-27, 2003) held in Manila.
SCRFA presented a summary of the work of the Society to raise greater awareness of the problems of aggregation exploitation; Conserving and managing spawning aggregations: a report on the work and aims of the SCRFA and the importance of science in conservation and management.
The FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (1995) Article 6.8 of the General Principles calls for: "All critical fisheries habitats in marine and fresh water ecosystems, such as wetlands, mangroves, reefs, lagoons, nursery and spawning areas, should be protected and rehabilitated as far as possible and where necessary. Particular effort should be made to protect such habitats from destruction, degradation, pollution and other significant impacts resulting from human activities that threaten the health and viability of the fishery resources."
