Manual and Handbook

We aim to provide information on aggregations and aggregating fishes, ranging from biological information and technical guidance to educational materials, reports, references, to conservation and management guidelines.

Methods Manual

A METHODS MANUAL is now available in different sizes [see below for download or copies] that covers all aspects of studying spawning aggregations, from monitoring fish numbers over time using both fishery-dependent and fishery-independent approaches, investigating reproductive output, interviewing fishers, recognizing, mapping and documenting aggregations, to conducting biological studies and addressing conservation issues.

Using this reference manual, research and monitoring initiatives and protocols can be developed and adapted to suit local needs and circumstances. A web version quick reference tool kit can be found under the same section. The manual will be updated periodically (current Version 1.0) and we welcome comments on this version for consideration in later updates.
