Aggregating Species
As we learn more about the biology of reef fishes, so our understanding of the life histories of aggregating species improves. We present profiles on the biology and fisheries of species that aggregate to spawn along with details of reproductive behaviour and other relevant aspects of their biology.
A summary of biological and management information from the SCRFA database can be found here.
Here we present a series of Species Accounts with detail profile of 10 selected aggregating reef fish species.
The Fish Features series includes articles, photos, videos and other information on a range of fish species:
*an interesting but rather alarming account of the milkfish (Chanos chanos) from the Philippines
*a video, plus description of surgeonfish (Acanthurus nigrofuscus) spawning, (Download Quicktime here)
*a Cautionary Tale of Discovery, Science and Management of Nassau grouper (Epinephelus striatus), probably the best known of all aggregating reef fish
*Troubled times for trysting trio: Three aggregating groupers in the live reef food-fish trade.
